amanita muscaria

as i said before, i'm a Sculpture student at Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon.

besides working with metal, what i loved doing was wood carving, and the object i chose, was a mushroom. amanita muscaria, to be more precise. the red one with the white dots.

so i didn't have any experience at working with wood, but i guess it was not so bad. yes, it was really hard, and my hands were hurt everyday, but what i enjoyed most was when i had to take the piece home, and everyone stared at me at the subway for walking with a giant mushroom in my arms :)

sleepy sleepy

well, as i mentioned before, i'm a firefighter.

that's the reason i don't have anything in mind to post today. you see, i had to do a night shift so i didn't sleep at night, and now, i'm really tired, like everything is going round and i'm very dizzy. yes, i'm that sensitive to lack of sleeping :p

but i wanted to leave here this photograph of my big window, where i decided to put a motivational quote so i can remember every morning when i wake up, that i have a purpose in life. it says "i'm the size of my dreams".

hope this would be as inspiring to others as it is to me :)

something about design

i personally love to create stuff for my house, so i spend a lot of time searching diy websites and trying new things with strange materials. it specially attracts me the idea of creating with old materials and objects that others consider trash.

it's important, in my view, to explain that all my education was focused on arts since i was 6 years old, when my parents put me at Academy of Music and Fine Arts here in my city.

that leaded me to attend the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, where i'm going now to my 2nd year in Sculpture.

but actually, i always had that little thing for design, so i usually find liberating to create a thing or two that are not totally without a practical purpose.

since i have a lot of arts material, like pencils and paintbrushes, i thought of using a couple of old wooden frames from some canvas to do this:

i simply used a drill to make some holes for the utensils, and put a string for a piece of tissue. and that's it. yea, it's nothing special, but i like it, and it's really useful, so i just wanted to share it :p

green green green

so a few months ago i decided to start gardening, since i love so much being surrounded by nature, and even though i live almost on the mountain, it's still in an urban neighborhood.

it all started with a pot of begonias that my mother gave me as a gift for passing the last exam to be a firefighter. yes, i'm a firefighter, but i'll get to that later :p

since then, every week we would buy more pots and seeds, or plants, and rich soil to garden.

now, i have a nice and big collection of plants that i'm kindly growing. this activity i found it to be so relaxing that it's like we enter in a different world, like we live in the woods, in a children's story.

these are sesame seeds that i put on a pot just to try it. it grew out beautifully

this is a pumpkin plant, even though i'm not sure it would give pumpkins, since it's in a big pot and not free on the ground of a lawn

this is a small piece of ivy i bought, and i'm hoping it grows to be big and strong enough to climb these walls.

these are the famous begonias that started all this :)

and finally, this would be a kind of fern i'm trying to grow roots so i can put it on soil

getting started

i find that, going 19 years old in a few weeks, i have nothing that i can call a memories bank, so i thought i should start registering the highlights of my life in order to show to you, and specially myself, that life is worth living and everything around us is as beautiful as we want it to be.

i also find that we get what we want in life, and nothing is without a meaning. i will try to take the best out of the worse and give more than i have, so the world could be a better place for us to live all in harmony.

i guess that the best start would be to present my best friends in the whole world (no offense to my human ones :p).
